The Good Life

“The Good Life”. That statement couldn’t be more accurate when describing Nebraska. Nebraska is known as “The Good Life” state due in large part to our farming and ranching way of life. Agriculture is also dangerous. Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers are generally exempt from providing workers’ compensation coverage to their employees. There are some things to be aware of however.
If there are less than 10 employees, the employer does not need to provide workers’ compensation insurance. He does need to provide the following notice at the time of hire:
“In this employment you will not be covered by the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Act, and you will not be compensated under the act if you are insured on the job or suffer an occupational disease. You should plan accordingly.”
This statement needs to be signed and kept on record by the employer.  If the employer does not provide this notice the they must provide workers’ compensation insurance.
